4/27/09:
In case you are wondering, Elle
Vaughn is the guy behind the drums now.
2/24/09:
In case you're wondering we're
slowing down on booking a bit while we get our drummer situation sorted out.
Both Philip and Katie (our previous drummers) are going on big tours this spring
and summer with other acts. So we're looking for someone who is not only great
and good fit with the band, but also available. LOL So we'll keep ya posted.
The schedule and bio page have also
been updated.
1/07/09:
Happy New Year everyone!!!
We've updated the schedule with a
couple gigs. We're working on learning new stuff (originals and covers) so we'll
keep ya posted. Our "free" photo album became no longer free so I'm looking
around for a new free hosting site. So more on that soon.
Check out the MySpace if you haven't
already at:

Help spread the word. We hope to see
you out!!!
12/18/08:
Join us tomorrow night (Friday) at
the Voodoo Lounge as we celebrate Lance's Birthday (which is actually Dec 22nd)
with an all-star jam featuring Geary Tucker (and other members of the 4-Door
Ramblers), Lacey Atchison, Freddy Earl Faust, JD Wheeler, and many more. This
will be a great time. Show starts at 9pm.
AND next Saturday (12/27) will be
another all-star Christmas Show at Voodoo with several acts including us, the
4-Door Ramblers, Bob Walters Banned, CO Jones, Tim Risbon & Fred Lite, and
possibly more. So bring your jingle bells.
And don't forget to vote for us in
the Best of the Valley 2008 poll at
www.valleyplanet.com The link is at the bottom
left of the screen. Thanks.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and
Bah-hum-bug.
11/24/08:
Our new drummer is Katie Herron from
Decatur, AL. She's played with alot of folks: Electric Voodoo, Trial By Jury,
Angela Hacker (from Nashville Star), and Jason Elliott (from Nashville) to name
a few. So welcome her to the fold as she learns how to put up with me and Nick.
:-)
Thursday (Thanksgiving night) I'll
be playing with Alabama Slim at the Voodoo Lounge. Slim, who is originally from
Huntsville, is coming up here from New Orleans to play a hometown show. He's the
real deal when you think of bluesmen and it's a free show so don't miss it.
Starts at around 9:30pm.
10/16/08:
We had a great time at Little
Willies in Tuscaloosa. Cool place. Hope we can come back. It was good to get out
of town. We plan on doing more of that next year.
We took some videos of our gig at
Little Willies. They are now posted on YouTube at
www.youtube.com.
Just do a search on Lance Almon Smith and you'll see em. They are also on our
MySpace in our videos section.
Philip is out on tour right now with
his other band Thomas Function. They are touring the east coast all the way up
in to Canada. He's having a blast. So we didn't book much this month. Katie
Herron (Trial by Jury/Electric Voodoo) will be filling in for him on drums.
She's awesome and I'm looking forward to something a bit different. But don't
worry, Philip will be back for our gig on the 25th at Voodoo. See you at both
those events.
9/9/08:
What an awesome time we had a Blues
Fest 2008. It was good seein' Alabama Slim and Ardie Dean again and meeting
Adolphus Bell and Jerry "Boogie" McCain. Its always fun to play on the big stage
with a sound guy and my two amps, a Vibroverb and a Vibrolux turned up creamy
smooth. Can't wait till next year. You can check out the pics on Freddy and Lynn
Fausts page at:
http://gallery.bamafolks.com/main.php?g2_itemId=41722
Don't forget about our debut at
Little Willies in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday Sept. 20th. Alabama is away at
Arkansas so I'm not sure what the crowd will be like. But its always fun to go
back to my old stompin' grounds.
I finished all the songs for the
album. Cut a quick demo for the guys and we're working em up. Should hit the
studio soon as Philip gets back from his tour next month with Thomas Function.
Also, I'm sitting in with the 4-Door
Ramblers for a few gigs while they find a new guitarist. So check some of those
dates out. See ya in t-town.
8/14/08:
Well, I'm still working on the songs
for the album. The problem is that in the last month or so I've written 2 or 3
new songs that I kinda like so I've been polishing them a bit with the hopes of
using them instead of some others I had previously written. So anyways, its a
work in progress. Also, I just bought a camcorder so hopefully I can get some
clips up on YouTube. So that's what's up. See ya at the gigs.
7/18/08:
So what's been going on lately?
Well, I've been working pretty hard on the songs for the album. We got a studio
picked out and as soon as their schedule opens up in the next few weeks we'll
get in there. In the meantime I've been polishing the new songs, rewriting them,
adding parts, taking away, etc. I'm pretty excited. There will be a little bit
of everything. Some traditional blues stuff, some rock and roll, and some quiet
electric and acoustic numbers. So like I said, I'm pretty excited. Nick and I
(Lance) have been rehearsing and such a bit.
Oh yeah, that reminds me. Philip's
other group, Thomas Function, got signed to a pretty big record deal. They'll be
doing some touring and stuff next year for it, including overseas, so that will
be pretty cool.
So until next time...
5/28/08:
Join us for our debut at Crossroads
in downtown Huntsville this Thursday. We will split the bill with the 4-Door
Ramblers and they will open the night. Everyone please come out and support both
bands so that we can make this a regular thang. Should be one great night of
blues and rock 'n roll. Hope to see you all there.
3/04/08:
I've been working on writing and
finishing the tracks for our CD hopefully to be out by summer. Looks like it
will be close to 12 tracks. I've just about
wrapped that up. We've even done some pratices with the new songs and I've done
a few at the gigs we've done recently. Also looking into playing some new places and getting out of
town more. I finished our gig demo so hopefully that will help. In the meantime, there are some live sound clips
off of it from one of our shows
at Voodoo last year posted on our MySpace. Check them out here:
www.myspace.com/lancealmonsmithband
12/03/07:
Hey everyone. Just a quick update.
We recorded our last show at the Voodoo Lounge and we are looking forward to
making that into a demo and possibly even a live CD. So we'll keep ya posted
here.
We are also in the process of
finalizing the songs to be released on our debut CD which is in the works. We've
been rehearsing a bit and tweaking things here and there. Currently we're
looking at doing about 12 songs with 10 of those being originals penned by
Lance. More to come on that.
This Thursday we will debut at
Humphrey's so please come out and support us. Hopefully we will be inside. :-)
Also, don't forget that Lance's
Birthday Bash will be at the Voodoo Lounge on December 22nd. This is always a
big event and you never know who will show up to play. Its guaranteed to be a
blast. See ya then!!!
11/7/07:

10/29/07:
Hey everyone. Thanks to everyone
who's come out to our shows and especially to those who came to the Halloween
Party @ Voodoo. That place was hopping. Had a great time. We are starting to
book Xmas parties in December so if you are planning one and think you might
want us to play get with us ASAP so we can pencil you in even if you aren't
positive you will have it.
Also, check out our new pics and
don't forget about our MySpace:
http://www.myspace.com/lancealmonsmithband
9/21/07:
New photos posted.
7/03/07:
Our photo gallery is back up. YAY!!!!
7/02/07:
If you missed the huge jam at the
Grand Opening of the Voodoo Lounge you missed one heck of an event. We should
have some photos up as soon as we figure our photo gallery out.
4/02/07:
Despite the increased crowds since
beginning, the Sunday Nite Jam at the House of Brews has been cancelled by the
management. Thanks to everyone for coming out and making this a fun experience.
3/05/07:
The Sunday Nite Jam at the House of Brews
has been going great. We've had great crowds and they're pretty lively. The Jam
is every Sunday from 8pm-12am and we get into all kinds of genre's so come on
out and have some fun at this "smoke free" early jam.
Right now Lance has been working on
some studio work for Victoria Pennington's European tour this summer so keep
your ear to the rail and we'll keep ya posted.
Also, the website which hosts the photo
album is undergoing some renovations. Therefore you won't be able to view the
album until they get it fixed.
2/07/07:
Hey ya'll. We've been on a little
break learning some new tunes and such. Check them out this Saturday night at
Judge Crater's.
Also, Philip and I (along with Dan
Hardin on bass) will be hosting a Blues Jam/Open Mic at the House of Brews this
Sunday from 8pm-12am. If it does well it will become a regular thang. So come on out and enjoy this "smoke free" early jam.
1/12/07:
Our gig at Philby's was moved from
Friday, Feb 2nd to Friday, Feb 23rd due to scheduling conflicts. We are also
honored to have been asked to play the 3rd Friday of every month starting in
March at the House of Brews so mark your calendars. This is a great place!!!
1/3/07:
Happy New Year everyone!!!
Join us this Friday for our debut at
the House of Brews in downtown Huntsville. The HOB is Huntsville's newest
smoke-free bar. Its a real nice place with a great atmosphere so come out and
help make our debut big.
12/21/06:
Don't forget
Lance's Birthday Bash
at Philby's tomorrow night. The band will be playing and we will have some
special guests so be sure to come out and have some fun with us.
12/12/06:
After a semi-lengthy auditioning
process, Philip Dougherty has joined the band as our new drummer. He's a super
tight drummer and a great guy so show him some love. We're getting him up to
speed have been preparing for our big Xmas Party event this weekend and the
Birthday Bash on the 22nd. Ya'll be sure to come out for that one.
12/04/06:
The December 9th gig this week at
the Furniture Factory has been cancelled. However, a new gig at LeeAnn's has
been added for next Friday. We hope to see all of you there for our debut. And
don't forget the Birthday Bash at Philby's on the 22nd. We will have lots of
special guests.
11/13/06:
If you happen to have a MySpace
account, the band now has a MySpace page at
http://www.myspace.com/lancealmonsmithband
9/28/06:
Thanks to everyone who came out to
the Furniture Factory Big Spring Jam weekend. You guys made the gig for us.
We've got some neat gigs coming up at new places so be sure to check out the
schedule. We're working in some new tunes so look for them in the new shows.
8/09/06:
I wanted to thank everyone who
placed an order through our website with Musician's Friend. If you didn't know,
we get a cut of any order you place using those ad links on the Links page. I
got a check the other day from Musician's Friend so a big thanks to anyone who
ordered through our website. Money from those links goes to pay for our website.
BTW, if you were wondering why
Google ads started popping up on our Guestbook, the guestbook provider was
ad-free when we joined. But they recently started charging for an ad-free
guestbook so it looks like our guestbook won't be ad-free for awhile. :-)
Lastly, I'm in the process of
learning some new songs so if you got something you'd like to see us do, then
email me and let me know. I'll see what I can do.
We'll see everyone at Philby's
Friday night.
8/03/06:
Thank you to each and every one of
you who came out to the Furniture Factory and braved the heat with us. It took a
set or so to really get going but we had a great time. I lost about 5 lbs.
Victoria gained a bunch of new fans. I'm not really sure why that always
happens...? Thanks to Bob Walters for sitting in with us and to Geary Tucker and
my parents for coming out as well. And thanks to the heckler for pissing me off.
No we don't play country. Sorry.
8/01/06:
Be sure to come on out for our debut
at the Furniture Factory tomorrow
(Wednesday - 8/2). It's a great
place to play (and eat) so come on out and support us.
The Pinhook Yacht Club has closed
its doors so all of our dates there are now cancelled. But something's in the
works for the future there so we'll keep you posted.
7/17/06:
Thanks everyone for coming out and
supporting us in July. We had alot of fun. We probably won't have any more dates
until August so we'll work up some new stuff for then.
Don't forget to get your Clapton tix.
He's playing Wednesday, Oct 18th at the BJCC in Birmingham.
6/23/06:
Thanks everyone for coming out.
We've had alot of support and awesome comments from everyone so we appreciate
that greatly.
The Saturday, July 1st date at
Philby's has been moved to that Friday, June 30th.
If you want to see us at your
favorite place to hang out, be sure to request us next time you're there. It
helps when we call new places for bookings. We're working on a demo but until
its done, word of mouth is all we have.
Also, we are available for private
parties. Its summer and we've had a few requests already so I just thought I'd
let everyone know. So if you like us that much just shoot us an email on the
Contact page. :-)
5/30/06:
More dates have been added. Check em
out.
Also, vote for Victoria Pennington
in the 357 Customs Model Search at
357Customs.com.
5/16/06:
Thanks everyone for coming out
Friday night. We had an awesome time. It went really well so we'll be playing
again at Philby's soon. Don't forget about our show at the Kaffeeklatsch this
Friday. We consider the Klatsch home so it should be a great show.
We've added a new member to the
band, Craig Edwards, a good friend of mine (Lance). He's agreed to join the band. This
guy is a keyboard ace so be sure to check him out.
Also, we've signed up as an
affiliate partner with Music123.com and other music related sites. I just bought
a guitar from them that I will debut in a few weeks when it arrives. Anways,
we've added a couple of links
on the
Links page for
them and other vendors. We'll get a percentage of each sale so be sure to
start your shopping here and help out the band. It won't cost you anything. It
just helps us out. We'll be adding more sites
shortly.
5/9/06:
A message from Lance:
First off, let me thank each one of
you for visiting the site. As most of you know, this has been a project in the
making for the last 4 months. I know I've been asked about it a lot and
have talked about it a ton. And I've received alot of support and positive
comments by friends and fans so I want to thank you guys. We put alot of time in
working on new songs...rehearsing just about every week. I think about half of
these tunes you guys have never heard me do before. Its all fresh and new and
pretty exciting for me to finally get to do some of these songs and take it to
the next level. So the question I always get is, "So whatcha gonna play?" Well,
we're going to be doing some of the more popular rock and roll stuff people are
familiar with as well as some of the blues stuff you guys said you like for me
to do. We'll do some Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Rolling
Stones, some Allman Brothers, and all the blues guys too. Of course I've also
been working on getting my vocals up to par to do them as some of them are
pretty difficult vocally. We also worked up a few originals of which I hope to
be debuting more of in the future. I think you're going to start seeing a new
side and hopefully an emergence of an artist. I am hoping this will all lead to
work on a CD here towards the end of the year. That's the plan anyways. So
enough with all the talk and hype. As Eric Clapton said during a benefit concert
for his rehab center, "The talking is done. Now we're just gonna play." So I
thank you guys again for your support so far and I hope to see everyone there at
Philby's for the debut.
3/7/06:
We just got the website up. Bear
with us.
